Boring Nursing Pad Post

By Natalie

I'm having trouble finding some nursing pads that I like. It's like the holy grail of nursing.

Why do they package the nursing pads where they are fold in half? You put them on and you can clearly see the line where they've been folded through a bra and shirt. Furthermore, why do they have a pleat?

Here's all the brands I've tried:

Medela
Cons: too thin, pleated, packed by folding in half, not soothing, complaints that the adhesive stinks

Lanisoh
Cons: too thin, pleated, packed by folding in half, not soothing
Johnson & Johnson
Pro: thick and soothing, not folded in half in packaging
Con: has an unfortunate nipple indentation, which looks like you are nipping all day long

TL Care Washable Organic Cotton
Pro: soothing, comfortable, good for the environment
Con: I leak through them occasionally and I would say that my leaking problem is minimal
Avent
Pros: thicker and more soothing than Lanisoh and Medela
Cons: packed by folding in half

What is your favorite?

P.S. It seems like the prices are cheaper at Target, Kroger, and Buy Buy Baby than at Amazon. Most of the disposable ones are around $7.99 for 60. The washable one was $6.99 for 6.

  1. Ok, so these are expensive, but they are THE BOMB. Reusable and they do not show.

but also little known fact? I had TERRIBLE leaking and it was so embarrassing and awful (seriously least favorite part of nursing ever) and then I got a lined polyester nursing bra, and it never happened again. It would leak INTO the bra but not through to my t shirt. I think it was this exact one:

Best day ever, the day I figured that out.

  2. I love my organic cotton pads (no idea which brand), but only for after the baby is older and there's not much leaking. If I leak a lot, I prefer the Medela ones - yeah, they're thin, but that's because the gel stuff inside holds tons of liquid. I've never had them leak and once there's a little liquid in there, the gel is pretty soothing.

  3. You have done your research. I like the Johnson & Johnson ones when I'm out of the house to avoid leaking through & ruining my shirt.

My favorite though are a set of handmade ones from @am_doingmybest. They're fleecy & soft next to my skin, pretty absorbant and pretty. You might hop on Twitter & ask her.

  4. I used the Lansinoh ones a lot and I never actually used the adhesive, I just placed them in my bra and they stayed put. Maybe try not peeling the stickers?

I was gifted a set of these and I really loved them, a lot more than the Lansinoh ones.

  5. I use the Lansinoh pads. They're not great, but definitely better than the other disposable pads I've used. I HATED the Medela ones which is sad as I do really love their other products.

I like the Lilypads especially because they don't tend to show through my bra when wearing a thinner t-shirt or blouse, but they're kind of a pain to rinse after removing them. Also, I leak A LOT and feel like I can't get a great "seal" with them.

(Oh! I think NUK nursing pads are not folded in half. I used a sample of those right after H was born)
